![]() ![]() Have held another successful Developer Direct- this time, for Forza Motorsport.Ara History untold, along with a release date Have released a smaller, first party game trailer at Gamescom e.g.Feel able to have a stronger presence at all of the above, as well as Gamescom, Japan Gamesshow, The Keighley's etc, giving them multiple marketing beats each year.Own multiple in-person events at which they can show off first party content (Quake con - 10k people, Blizzcon - 40k people, NOT E3 - ?).Have announced at Blizzcon their first console exclusive developed by ABK, the survival game.Have more ways to reach users than any other company (via all those cloud providers - They may even have released 2023 CoD via one of these mediums by them ).Have 32 first party studios (even without breaking down Blizzard into it's army of studios) - more than any other first party developer.Have added an initial wave of ABK games into Gamepass, increasing sub numbers.Own ABK - making them comparable to PS in terms of annual revenue - giving them a large marketing opportunity in terms of a welcome to Xbox event or something. The whole narrative about Xbox will change within 3 months, whichever way you feel about their imminent future. Sometimes it's the smarter thing to do to admit being wrong and changing your strategy instead of foolishly clinging to it until the end. I'm sure there are conversations going behind the scenes right now at MS. ![]() ![]() People on PC are much less likely to subscribe to Gamepass because of how cheap games are on PC, and even if they do subscribe, MS won't benefit much from it, because PC isn't a closed ecosystem and people will not be buying other products on Microsoft store as a side effect. For all the good things Gamepass and Play Anywhere strategy did, it increasingly looks like they lost more with it than they gained (smaller revenue from first party games, fewer consoles sold because of PC, smaller install base, which means smaller revenue from third-party cuts).įor all the talk about MS not caring about hardware sold, their digital services will not grow significantly without it. ![]() Some great first party games and better marketing would help somewhat, but most people would still prefer to get Xbox first party games on PC. There's no incentive to own an Xbox console. In Europe and Asia, PS5 + PC (or just PC) is considered the way to go for gaming. ![]()
